Mohawk Chief Earrings

The Kanien'kehá:ka, meaning People of the Flint, also known as the Mohawk, are one of the five original nations that make up the Iroquois Confederacy. Historically located in the Hudson river valley, today the Mohawk are most famous for their impressive contribution to the construction of New York City.

They were known to be extreme risk-takers, ironworkers reputedly fearless of heights who took on the most dangerous jobs at the tops of structures such as the Empire State building, the Chrysler building, the Rockefeller center, WTC and almost all of New York City's bridges. These portrait carvings are Alex Streeter's tribute to these valiant men, whose legacy stretches back more than 6 generations through NYC history.
