Sphinx Cuff
When Alex Streeter began making jewelry, one of the first techniques he employed was that of the ancient art of acid-etching. This piece, carved in the early 1970’s, combines the acid-etching method with another classic technique known as “repoussé”, in which 3D shapes are formed by hammering a rounded planisher into the back side of the piece. The use of the Sphinx motif and ancient carving technique was largely inpired by a childhood spent exploring the halls of the Egyptian wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
