Alex Streeter first got his start selling hand-painted wooden jewelry featuring the winged heart motif during the 1967 Summer of Love in San Francisco. A few years later he created a hand-carved silver version, now known as the Flying Heart Ring.  Since then it has become a widely popular emblem, symbolizing freedom and weightlessness of the soul.
