The chosen motif, a bronze eight-pointed heptagram, is known as the Star of Ishtar—the symbol of the ancient Babylonian goddess of love and war. In the Babylonian pantheon, she is considered to be the divine personification of the planet Venus.

Frequently depicted standing on the backs of two lionesses, Ishtar was also linked to rain, storms, and the dual nature of the morning and evening star—an association later mirrored in the Greco-Roman goddess Aphrodite or Venus.
