Claudius Gothicus Ring

Introducing the Claudius Gothicus Ring, a brand-new addition to the ancient world of Roman coin rings by Alex Streeter. Joining the ranks of Alexander the Great and Constantine, the center motif of this ring was molded from an authentic Roman coin dating back to roughly 270 AD. Alex then added his own embellishments to each side; ionic columns in the style of the time carved using the ancient art of lost wax. The face on this coin is that of Claudius II, also known as Claudius Gothicus. He is depicted wearing a solar crown, whose spiked points mimic the rays of the sun.

Claudius was Emperor of Rome for just two years, but his legacy reached far and wide. Born a "barbarian", Claudius rose from humble origins through the ranks of the military, eventually taking power of Rome. He became widely recognized for his extraordinary stratetigic abilities, most famously at the Battle of Naissus. Faced against a massive army of Gothic invaders, the Romans tricked the Goths into an ambush by pretending to flee. Some 50,000 Goths were allegedly killed or taken captive. The victory earned Claudius his surname of "Gothicus" (conqueror of the Goths).
