Silver-Plate Wasp Earrings
The Wasp Earring was carved by Alex Streeter in the late 80's, a part of his insect collection inspired by the golden flies found in the Egyptian section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The wasp is a highly regarded symbol in many cultures, from Ancient Egypt to Native American tribes who believed the wasp to be the creator of the earth; symbolizing order among chaos. Wasps have been featured in jewelery since at least the 19th century, when diamond and emerald wasp brooches were made in gold and silver settings.
